Joan Hammett
(???? –)
Joan Hammett was a UK fan active in in the 1950s. She and her husband, Paul , were described by Bob Madle as 'very clever, and are good for a few laughs per minute'[1].
Paul Hammett attended the Coroncon in London in 1953 and Ken Slater described him as from Malta[2]. The Hammetts have a London address in Ron Bennett's Directory of Science Fiction Fandom for 1955, are in Birmingham in 1956, and in Bilston, Staffordshire from 1957. However, when Bob Madle met them at Loncon, the 1957 Worldcon, he described them as 'from the island of Malta' again. In Aporrheta #12 (July-August 1959) the Hammetts are implied to be living in Dorset but Joan Hammett is also described as 'Chairwoman of the Midland Region Group' of CND suggesting that Dorset wasn't their permanent base.
The Hammetts were regular attendees at UK conventions until at least Brumcon in 1959 but probably no later. They only attended the latter briefly, leaving to join the anti-nuclear weapons Aldermaston March (Wikipedia).
